Team ResilientX break Atlantic rowing world record

Max Thorpe and Dave Spelman (team Resilient X) have set a new World Record for fastest crossing of the Atlantic of a two-man vessel. Lane4 sponsored Max Thorpe for his second attempt to row from the Canary Islands to Antigua. Teammates Max Thorpe and Dave Spelman successfully completed the 3000-mile journey in just 37 days 7 hours and 54 minutes, finishing first in pairs, and seventh overall. The previous world record was 40 days 4 hours and 3 minutes.

In 2017, Max Thorpe’s first attempt to complete the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge ended in near-fatal disaster after his boat capsized and caught fire. Undeterred, he entered the challenge for a second time in December 2019, with the aim of completing the race into which he and his team mate have poured blood, sweat and tears.

Setting off on December 12^th 2019, the pair have averaged more than 75 nautical miles a day. By rowing in shifts of two hours on, two hours off, Max and Dave have successfully overcome some of the most inhospitable conditions on Earth. The record-breaking victory in the challenge is very well deserved.
