Supporting Mellon Educate

Lane4 were proud to support Mellon Educate with their Building Blitz 2017 which involved building three schools in Cape Town, South Africa.  This November saw 300 volunteers from 17 different countries come from as far afield as Australia to take part in Mellon Educate’s most ambitious School Building Blitz to date. A total of 15 classrooms, three playgrounds, two kitchens, two sheltered areas and one sports field were completed in just one week.

As Anna Carver, UK Development Officer from Mellon Educate, points out “None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our volunteers and the generosity of our donors. This, however, is only the beginning. Once the building is complete, our education team support, mentor, train, advise and equip the principals, teachers and communities to deliver improved teaching and learning. This is what makes Mellon’s work sustainable, and brings us ever closer to our goal of improving education for 100,000 of Africa’s most disadvantaged children.”

Lane4 were delighted to support the project with sponsorship and provision of chalkboards for the classrooms.

Mellon Educate is an Irish-based African development charity founded by developer & philanthropist Niall Mellon in 2002 and established as a charitable company in 2004 – their purpose is to give children in Africa the gift of education to help them create a sustainable future for themselves.
