Sellafield Ltd and Lane4 win gold at the Brandon Hall Awards 2020

Sellafield Ltd and Lane4 are delighted to have won a prestigious Brandon Hall Group Gold Award for the Best Use of a Blended Learning Programme!

The award recognises that the multi-year blended learning LE3AD programme successfully delivered learning through a blend of digital content and face to face learning, resulting in measurable, industry-leading benefits for the delegates and the organisation as a whole.

Sellafield Ltd is Europe’s largest nuclear site and has the world’s most diverse range of nuclear facilities situated on a single site. Employing over 11,000 people, it is responsible for safeguarding nuclear fuel, materials and waste. Sellafield Ltd is undergoing major change as it moves from a long history of reprocessing spent nuclear fuel to a mission of decommissioning and environmental clean-up.

The ongoing LE3AD programme is essential to support this significant transformation, with the aim of developing 2700 leaders to adopt a high-performance culture and embed a consistent leadership approach and language throughout the organisation.

Since January 2019, 928 leaders have completed their journey with 87% of delegates reporting that they are confident they will change their behaviour as a result of the programme. A recent survey showed an 18% shift in how helpful people find communications from senior management and a 4% increase in employees view of their managers as a good role model (up to 74%).

The ongoing multi-year programme is a blend of digital content and face to face learning supported by a bespoke Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) created by leading digital specialist, LEO Learning. The VLE forms the central hub of the programme, a digital environment which allows delegates to personalise their learning experience accessing a suite of digital content, learning materials and practical tools ‘on the go’. The vision for the VLE was that leaders had ‘just in time’ resources available to them anywhere, any time and on any device. The face to face workshops anchored around 3 core modules: Leading Self, Leading Others and Leading the Enterprise. Alongside these core modules additional components included action learning groups, self-assessments, team diagnostics and toolkits, and a high performance environment scan with unique dashboard access for every leader.

A particular highlight of the programme included a simulation on the concept of ‘Every Contact Leaves A Trace’ aimed at raising leaders’ awareness on how their behaviour impacts those they lead. Senior leaders went through a live face-to-face simulation involving actors to really challenge their mindset and beliefs about the role they play as a leader. For the middle manager population, this was created as an online, innovative, TV quality, digital branching simulation in partnership with LEO Learning.

Joanna Petrie-Rout, Head of Leadership Development at Sellafield Ltd, said:

“We’re delighted to have received this international award. We have undertaken Leadership Development before however never on this scale. Lane4 has been a fantastic organisation to partner with to develop the LE3AD programme. We are already seeing the benefits of using a common leadership language across the organisation. Our leaders continually share how insightful, engaging and inspiring they have found the programme and really appreciate how easy it is to apply the tools back in their day job”

Adrian Moorhouse, Managing Director at Lane4, said:
